Lajpat Nagar is a fun and cozy suburb in South Delhi! It’s also referred to as Afghan Nagar by many because of its sizeable Afghan migrant population. It is popular amongst Delhiites and tourists for the grand Central Market that’s buzzing with people at all times of the day. (Not to be confused with the Lajpat Nagar in Ghaziabad)
You obviously get all your KFC, Domino’s, McDonald’s, Subway, Dunkin Donuts quota filled here. Given the Afghan population, you also get to have a rendezvous with heavenly delicacies in places like Afghan Darbar! There are some other street places too that you should try! Also now that we are talking about street food, the momos here are great, especially in LN II.
I am a native of this area, have been putting up in this area for long! 20 years plus experience of living in this area. I am working as Clinical Dietician Intern with Max Super Speciality Hospital in Saket. I enjoy being lazy, cooking, some amount of shopping. Also, a bit of Social Work!
This is a beautiful residential area to live in! South Delhi's shopping delight! This area is a more of residential area & has a mix of small chunk of commercial places. The residential societies and blocks have been really nice, area mostly has independent houses and less of societies. There are few chunks of government accommodation as well in the vicinity.
The most popular part about this area is the Central Market which is crowded most of the times, gives you the variety to shop for anything and everything. All bigger brands to street shopping is possible here and market is easily accessible from all the sides of Lajpat Nagar. Also this area is well connected to Metro & Ring Road. Multiple places to eat out, Delhicious Night Kitchen & Beliram Degchiwal are nice! Facilities here are okayish, could be issues in summers else they are fine.
The traffic and the current metro construction taking place in this area is a mess. The roads are blocked because of the same and it makes it very difficult for regular commuters as well as the crowd that pours in for shopping. There are minimal water shortages & power cuts in this area. Commuting options are in plenty with rickshawas and autos available for local travel! Also well connected to ring road with options of multiple buses connecting to rest of Delhi and nearby areas. Also Lajpat Nagar & Moolchand Metro Stations are the nearest.
